16 Positive Affirmations for Self-Esteem

Write them down.

Say them out loud.

Repeat.

Why are positive affirmations for self-esteem helpful?

Negative thought processes can tank your self-esteem and negatively affect all areas of your life. Learning to say and think good things about yourself may be really difficult initially, but the benefits can far outweigh the awkwardness in the end.

The affirmations

Use these as a starting point, then write your own as you learn more about what kind of affirmations work best for you based on what you want to achieve and how you want to feel.

  1. I deserve good things
  2. I am enough
  3. I choose to be happy today
  4. I can get through anything
  5. I am strong
  6. I accept who I am
  7. I radiate confidence
  8. I am in control of my thoughts
  9. I am proud of all the things I’ve overcome
  10. I stand by the decisions I’ve made
  11. My best self is my authentic self
  12. I can do hard things
  13. I am capable of achieving anything
  14. I can create the life I want
  15. I love the person I am becoming
  16. I am safe, healthy, and happy

How to come up with your own affirmations

Affirmations are usually written in the present tense and have the words “I” or “my” in them. Think of what you want and how you want to feel when writing them.

If you’re here because you find yourself using negative self-talk regularly, just write the opposite of what you normally tell yourself. If you tell yourself you’re weak and incapable, you might make an affirmation about being strong and capable of anything.

They don’t have to be true (yet), but try to make them somewhat believable and achievable. “I am capable of achieving a level of success that allows me the financial freedom to buy anything I want” is one thing while, “I have seven corvettes and a llama” is another.
