8 Easier Self-Care Ideas

Taking care of ourselves is important, but sometimes we don’t feel like taking on huge self-care activities. I like to keep a small list of easy self-care ideas for when my energy levels are low, but I know I need to do something for myself.  We don’t necessarily need to have a spa day, a fancy candle-lit dinner, or anything else that requires lots of energy. There are easier ways.

8 Easier self-care ideas:

1. Drink water

Try to increase the amount of water you drink each day, even if it’s just a few more gulps than you’re used to. Your body and skin will thank you. Your bladder might not, but it’ll get used to it.

2. Take a shower

Taking a shower not only gets you nice and clean, but it will also get you up and moving, which in itself can be counted as self-care at times. Bonus: if you take a hot shower an hour or so before bed, it can help you sleep better because of the rapid increase and decrease of your body temperature.

3. Moisturize

Moisturizing your whole body or even just your face can make you feel a million times better. Do it after a shower for double feel-good points.

4. Gentle stretches

You don’t have to commit to an hour of power yoga to move and stretch your body. Set a goal of 5 minutes of gentle stretching and go from there. You might decide that’s enough, or you might want to go a little longer. A few minutes is always better than nothing, so don’t be hard on yourself.

5. Read for fun

This isn’t the time to read something you have to for work or school. Pick something to read that is strictly for entertainment or fun and read a few pages or, if you’re like me, the whole book.

6. Brush your teeth and floss

It seems simple, but this simple hygiene task can be a mini mood booster. When we feel clean, we tend to feel better and less stressed.

7. Go for a walk

A quick walk around the block gives you the benefits of movement, sun (weather permitting), and stress-relieving hormones.

8. Sit in the sun

Getting a little bit of sun will not only help you to feel better through the release of serotonin, but it’s one of the ways to help you get a better night’s sleep because it helps with the production of the sleep hormone melatonin.
